Logo etch

Steve,

I was impressed with the logo etch on that last little knife of yours I got. Could you give a quick run down on your procedure for attaining the depth and clarity of the etch please.

Do you use the Marking Methods stencils? The yellow or green ones?

Do you first etch on DC current to get depth, then swith to AC to get the dark mark? How long to etch at each step?

What current level (amps)? etc.

Do you use the Marking Methods stencils?

Yes. with the Model Mark III machine.

The yellow or green ones?

Both. Green for larger sized marks, yellow for smaller, you can get more detail, with yellow but they are stiffer and don't want to lay on the blade, or, more specifically, in the hollow of a grind, especially a small diameter wheel's grind, as well as the blue. Blue is much nicer to use, if it'll work with your logo size.

Yes. Set to #3 DC/Deep for 10 sec. Count, "one-one thousend, two-two thousand, three-three thousand, then lift pad off of stencil. Wait 2-5 sed. Then back in contact, count three mroe sec. Then off, then on for anohter two or three sec.

Then set dial to #5 and switch to AC/normal to blacken the mark, leaving it in contact for longer periods, psosibly 3-5 sec each for a total of 10-12 sec. Don't go much over 10-12 sec, or you'l have problems.
