And here is the formed sheath. Now to form the belt loop.

I use a thin piece of plywood 1 1/2" wide like this to form the loop.

Lay it across in the position you want the loop, fold it over twice, and cut your loop to length.

I used an electric heat gun to fold the loop over the plywood form. And of course, cotton gloves.

I buy my rivets from KnifeKits .com. In this case, I'm using 14" black rivets, so I'll drill a 1/4" dia. hole thru the flap and sheath for a rivet.

Careful, the drill can catch and rotate the sheath when the point breaks thru.

I drilled (3) 1/4" holes around the seam side of the sheath and used my Rivet setting tools from Knifekits.com to set all the rivets.

Next, I sawed the excess material off and sanded all the edges using my belt sander.

The only thing remaining to do was to hand form the opening on the sheath to permit easier entering of he knife into the sheath. I used the heat gun with the good old cotton gloves again.

Wow, this is awesome, Don!

I'm doing a video series on simple Holstex? forming, but this is all you need to get a new holster or sheath going with. Great work!!!

Thank you!

Alex

To get the best, go with HOLSTEX, not Kydex. Holstex forms easier and the pattern is on both sides. Kydex only has the pattern on the face side.

In addition, with Holstex it is easier to accomplish a full form than with Kydex.

And you're welcome.

Have just found out he hard way the Mirage is a little more brittle. Went to score and snap out a bit and it shattered across 1/4 of the 12 x 24" sheet.
maybe had not cut in as far as needed but Kydex and the Black /CF Holstex would have just bent they went bang liek bit of glass

This seems like an old but good thread to bring back to life. I am just starting at this and wondered if KNAdmin ever made the video, I looked and couldn't find it. I am interested in pistol holsters and thinking of Holstex, what thickness and what and how much hardware should I buy to make 5 holsters?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Hi Dave,

The holster making videos are here:
http://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/fo...play.php?f=128

For small frame sizes, use .060-.080. For Medium to large pistol frames, use .080-.093. The amount that you'll for your guns can be estimated by cutting the holster parts out of cloth or paper for a scale mock-up. You can then experiment with nesting on your material to see how much total material you'll need. Most people buy 1x1 or 1x2's, but we sell sizes up to 4x8, if needed.

HOLSTEX? is awesome material. It's definitely the choice material for stylish holster makers.

Alex

they are carbon fibre print one side and textured the other so win win

the green matches Max ped colour pouch and the CF goes very well with the cordura texture
