hardness tester

What is the prefered tester that everybody uses to test hardness in thier blades? Does anybody know a place to get one relatively inexpensively?
Thanks
Steve

Rockwell is the standard, the "C" scale is where to read for knives.

Sorry guess I wasn't very clear. What brand name testers are in use. Does anybody use one of the portable testers and if so what brand?
Thanks
Steve

steve - fwiw:
i know that a few people have rockwell testers in their shops, but i believe that most use a brass rod and practical application as a better indicator of knife performance.
then again, you could always send samples out to a lab if you are checking out a new heat treat.

After looking around, got one of the China monsters three years ago, they are sold under various labels. It works just fine, good accuracy, and the 200lb.+ weight of the thing makes a dandy paper weight.

Seriously, the portable ones seemed pretty expensive, the hardness file sets not precise enough. There is a "real" American one sitting outside at a salvage yard near here with a heavy duty table, looked like it had been there a while with the cover off before I spotted it. You might check some used equipment yards.
