forging

if i wanted to forge a blade with a 1/8 spine what thickness bar should i start with thx Bill

It depends on your skills, both forging and grinding. You might get by with 3/16".

also.....

how do you go about forging the upsweep or a fingergrove this is done in forging and not grinding right

If by "upsweep" you are talking about the point of the blade curving upward, this happens all by itself as you hammer in your bevels. You actually have to take steps to stop it if you want a straight blade.

A finger groove can be hammered or ground, your preference.
