Well if b/t the two it looks "stringy" like Wenge. But almost too straight. Just my 2cents

Sometimes Black Palm has these tiny "black dots" interspersed throughout the grain. This of course is coming from working with both in wood working. I dont know if knife scales or what not would look different.

Looks like wenge. The end grain will be the tell all, black palm has little black circles when cut across the grain.

this should help

I would say its wenge as well. Nice looking wood but a little soft on the light spots. It's fairly stable as well.

I vote for wenge too, though its easier to tell black palm by the end grain.

Thanks guys. It looks a bit different than wenge I've had before. It didn't have the lighter streaks and had deeper vessels. Maybe a different variety.

Either way its too light. I might use it for nocks or such for bows.

Take a pic of the end. Then we might be able to tell you . It really looks like black palm to me. Those open areas around the black streaks make me think that. Haven't seen that in wenge.

Jason's pics pretty much define the difference. Grain patterns can vary from tree to tree and even within the same tree dependent on environment and soils.
