Recurve hunter (take two)...
This is my second attempt at this pattern. I think this one is closer to what I had originally envisioned. As for the specs:
1/8" D2 steel. HT by TKS and a Rockwell at about 59-60. Finish was taken up to 600 grit by hand. Vine filework on the spine. Bolsters are 416 SS brushed back to a satin finish. Mosaic pins as well. Handle is Louisiana Swamp Cottonwood stabilized by Mike at WSSI. I contoured the handles to include a palm swell (which I have grown to like). The handle was finished by hand up till 12000 grit (compound cloged it earlier ) Red spacers in between. ANY comments/suggestions on design welcome... Thanks for looking, Chris |

Wow! That wood is really sweet and the rest of the knife is very nicely done too.

Thanks guys! That means a lot coming from the both of you (Peter-stock removal, Gib-forging).
Peter, funny you mention the wood. I was all set to put some very good looking Curly Maple scales on it when my brother-in-law (recipient) came over, and at the last minute, changed his mind on what handle material he wanted (gottal love custom knives!). He chose these scales, and there you have it. The first time I tried this pattern, I think I was a little in over my head (second knife). This one came out better, in my opinion (sixth knife to date). Chris |
