Somebody Should Jump On This!

Think of this as replacing all the little drills in your shop, freeing up so much space!

edit: I just want to add that I woudl be all over this, but June is our inspection month in NH (it goes by birthday month), and we have two new vehicles to register in June. So basically my budget is tight until July.

Wowzie, Jeff, that little machine is a winner! I'm familiar with Burgmasters, and it sure would be handy for a knifemaker.

My wife is looking over my shoulder, so I'd better not bid on it.

Just my luck that when a decent clean mint condition Burgmaster comes on the market I'm broke.

Guess I better make some knives... darn it!

Wow! It's at about $500 now, that'd buy 5 inexpensive drill presses. It does have a tapping head on it though.

A new one would cost thousands of dollars, Robert. If you can afford it, I suggest you bid on it.

I'm tempted, but my wife would disown me. We've had a lot of other people's problems lately, and they've about cleaned me out.

That's a tough break Don, (other people's problems). I've been involved in that at times also, trying to help out.
Wish I knew what it'd go for, but that's what ebay is all about I guess. I'd like to have it because I think it'd have some resale value later on, but I've already spent over my allowance getting started in this hobby, I'm afraid I'd get neutered.

It brought $810. Probably a steal.

Yeah it makes me pretty sad to miss that one. Reliable Tool has great stuff. Their service is excellent. They always seem to get the best equipment, and they certainly don't post junk on eBay. Hey Robert, that $800 for that Burg was a steal, bro. If I had that I wouldn't need any other drill presses at all, save for maybe a floor model for my fabricating. Just the tapping head alone on that rig would set you back a couple hundred. Heck, if you had that with the tapping head, all your drilling and tapping problems concerning folders are SOLVED!

All in all, when you look at the $800 that cost, vs the $1500 it would cost you for a single-spindle Clausing, that Burgmaster was a steal. I just hope it went to a fellow knifemaker!

Me to Jeff. No telling what it would have gone for if someone else bid on it. The $810 guy may have been willing to pay twice that. If I run across another one of these days I may take a closer look at it. No way of telling how good of tolerence it was in, but it looked like it had been taken good care of. Some of the other turret presses on ebay are junky looking.
