super secret newbie project revealed!
ok I cant take it any more, I wanna share my work hehe these pieces are the ones that have made it to the post temper phase, I started with 12 knives I wanted to do, two Ive laid aside as they are gifts, two needed to be straightened from warpageso I normalized and put aside, and one broke....... and I want to get these ready for sale. a couple of these are ready for furniture and the rest still could use some finish and file work. tempering and hardening went VERY easy and I cant espouse my appreciation enough.for everyones valuble insights the tom brown tracker style one was the first and is going to be my personal knife as Ive wanted one since using a freinds when we went camping. #### fine tool that style. the one with the cutouts on the handle and the extreme bevel is shaping up to be my favorite and Ive got some fairly solid ideas about its furniture and inlays. (second from the left) but welp there it is. psst sorry the photos sort o grainy, both my camera and my photography skills are lacking heh. and a HUGE thank you to everyone here whos helped me Last edited by metalbender; 08-25-2006 at 06:07 PM. |

Nice looking blades. Which is the Tom Brown style?
Looks like you're in the same boat as me. I've been forging over the weeks when I get to work on Thursdays and have a fair number of blades finished up ready for handles. 3 I hardened yesterday, all appear to have gone well, but haven't gottent o clean them up yet for closer inspection. One won't need a handle as it was an attempt at a lil ugly like Tai showed how to make. I liked doing it and it came out nice. Single twist though. Then I've got a few still in the works. Some need sanding up to the point I can heat treat. I've got a few that I'm going to attempt a clay coated differential heat treat on. One being a small tantoish blade, and another that's kinda curved =] All I'm quite pleased with. Ones I treated yesterday were my lil ugly, my first attempt at damascus, and a cable blade. Eager to clean up and etch! =] |

I managed to straighten and successfully heatreat the warped ones Id put aside this last week, as well as get a fair bit done with the "fat bowie"'s guard and the wood for both that piece and my tracker rough cut and clamped to soak |

WOW man, totally awesome ability to create so many styles! Keep on going. I am now inspired despite the heat here in the desert to get the forge cranked up!
Great work; be sure top share some finished images later. Don Carlos |
