LOTR - Return of the King, Could they really do it?

Who's gone to see it yet? I've got to say, AWSOME!

So anyway, you masters of the forge out there (If you saw it) could they really reforge Narsil like they did? Just lay each heated pieace next to each other and hammer it together. I've never foged anything, but the size of those pieaces, I don't think so.

Anyway, again, outstanding movie! If you've seen the other 2 you have to go see this one, and in the theater, don't wait for it to come out on DVD, go out and see it.

BTW - I know, I know, its only a movie.

I believe it. I *also* believe Sam kicked the tar out of that giant spider with his foot.

I with you on the fun. One of my all-time faves. My most memorable moment was how well Aragon re-envigorized his war-weary troops for the final battle--again. "...but not on THIS day!!!"

I'll give you credit on that speech Coop, but my fav was Theoden to his riders before their big charge into the first battle. I can't remember what was said, but I was so moved I actually got upset because I wasn't there with them.

The weapons master for the shoot was outstanding, and spent a lot of time thinking things through (fletching of the elves versus orcs, details of Legolas's quiver/sheath on his back and on and on).

The forging scene, however, was pretty much the low point of the movie for either fun fantasy (really boring hammering of hot steel that we've seen in a gazillion times before) or technical accuracy (if you notice, the guy who's hammering it is actually bending a straight piece, plus the way they are pretending to hammer the pieces together would never work).

Yea, I heard the guys at WETA went to the extreme on some of the "presentation" stuff including the swords, the only thing they needed was sharpening.

O.K.,

I thought it was funny in the opening sequence of the first film that the Rings of Power were cast in cuttlefish bone with what looked like pewter...

Cuttlefish casting is just one of those Saturday school / continuing studies / cheesy craft-school techniques. And pewter? Get a real metal! Noldor Smiths indeed! 8o

I was wondering how realistic that was. The only casting I'm familure with is "Lost Wax" from some reading. It looked like to me there was a lot of spoilage from the stims or trees or what ever the pouring spouts are called. But I guess if your the Dark Lord gold comes a little easier
