Need a grinder

I have two teenage boys that want a grinder to make knives. I have been looking around and i think the Coote may be the ticket. I can get a 10 inch wheel and a motor for around a grand or so after shipping. Before i do that, i thought i would see if anyone in the NC area has a used grinder for sale.

My boy's are 18 and 19 respectively. If you have boys of this age you know their interests change rather frequently. So before i shell out the money and make the wife angry (she is not sure knife making is a worthy endeavor) I thought i would ask around here. We live in Davie county. We went to Winston show a few months ago and I saw some really nice examples and the boys got interested even more. To be honest, i don't think they have an appreciation for the cost of these things. I would like to encourage them, but it's a lot of money for something they may give up. I myself wouldn't mind tinkering with knife making. So there is that angle as well. The main thing is doing something we can be involved in together. If we spent a bunch of money and it fell apart, i would be upset and my wife would be down right cross. I have a nice electric guitar upstairs that no one uses to reinforce this belief.

Anyhoo, there it is. You know my predicament.

Derek

Here is a good deal for the money. I have never used one but it looks decent.

It is a lot easer to learn on a 8 inch wheel . And they are cheaper.

Do not do the pheer grinder on ebay. I bought one and the package is not bad but the variable controler stinks. Contact Chris Williams at Wilmont. You will pay more but you will get what you pay for.
