Leather knife..?
I see you can get a semi circle type knife for leather and they seem popular in the dvds I have seen on sheath making.I just use a utility knife but was thinking of making one of these round type knives so who use them and are they much better than a normal knife for leather work.

They are commonly called "head knives" in the trade. By all means make you several in different sizes. Make sure you keep them thin in profile and ultra sharp. You will find them very useful in cutting accurate straight and slightly curves lines. The smaller ones are also good for skiving in tight corners.

The round knives carry with them a learning curve. Be patient, and stick with them until you have gotten around the learning curve.
If you are making your own be sure, very sure, that you paid attention to Crex's advice on using very thin steel. Thin and sharp are the two keys to success. I have used the round knives now for years and demonstrate them exclusively in my three DVDs. The push cut with a round knife is far superior to the pull cut that you have to use with a utility knife, and generally much more accurate and far less tiring. PS: Make ####ed sure you are not cutting toward a finger!!! I keep three different sizes on my bench, but tend to grab the 2" the most frequent. Little better in the curves for me.
Hey Paul, just spent most of the day yesterday with Dad (Sandy). He's doing good and staying active. Always a good visit. Your ears were probably burning a little.
