Thumbs up Neo-Tribal Knife in the Hat Sign Up

Neo-Tribal KITH Sign-up - Deadline 15 November 2005

Well there has been plenty of interest for a Knife in the Hat, so here it is;

The Knife: Should be done in a neo-tribal style, Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths

The Catch: All of the components must be from recycled or found materials (Not found at the store ). Ie the rusty wrench in your toolbox or the coil spring from a car is fine, but store bought O1 drill rod is out. Stabilized slabs of wood bought from a supplier is no good, but the wood salvaged from a piece of broken furniture in the basement is appropriate.

Be creative! Melt down last months beer cans and cast an aluminum guard! Do a japanese style handle wrapping with shoelaces! Just go wild and be primal because that is what makes this site great.(that and the marvelous helpful people that visit!)

The Rules:
1.) Follow the above guidelines for style and materials.
2.) It must be your best effort, anyone from mastersmith to novice beginners are welcome.

To Sign Up:
Reply to this Post, http://p222.ezboard.com/fprimalfires...icID=659.topic on the Primal Fires Forum with your;

1) Forum Handle & (which Forum)
2.) Actual Name
3.) Neo-Tribal Name ie. NT Yard'n Ape McKay (it's okay to name yourself)
Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths Names
4.) Neo-Tribal Tribe you belong to. (if you belong to a tribe)
I am going to keep only one signup-sheet on the Primal Fires Forum to simplify things, but I will start a post here to show who is signed up.

The Deadline: November 15, 2005
All entries must be complete by this date. Names will be drawn on the night of November 15, and you will be told who to send your knife to. As well, who will be sending you a knife.

Good Luck and have Fun!!!
Happy Hammering.

Cool. I guess I'll have to get in on it. I have an old ham bone from last Christmas I've been wanting to do something with.

Tai don't throw that hambone on a blade yet. I'll be over tomorrow night to make sure all the meat is picked clean. I love that ham. Mmmmm! Kevin

Oh hell, Tai's getting in on a KITH. I am most definately IN.

I got construction at my place. I'm thinking leftover rebar, plywood, and pvc. We'll see what happens.

I would LOVE to take part in this, however had a few questions:

Is this purely forging-specific? I an a stock removal guy but don't know what "scrap" I can use for stock removal....does an old rusty file count? I have a few freakish ideas involving brass pipe fittings, antlers i found in the woods in my back yard, and old triangular files for pins....but cutting steel is where I am hitting the wall.

Cricket, try copying and pasting http://p222.ezboard.com/bprimalfires in your address bar, the signup sheet is on the 50/50 forum, if that still doesn't work, leave me another post here and I will add your name.

No it doesn't have to be forged, stock removal works too. Your freakish ideas sound right up this KITH alley.

I can't seem to make the Primal Fires site work on this machine. I'll try again from home (at work now) but please add me to the event from here if you don't hear from me over there.

Thumbs up Success!

O.K. I think I'm in, when and where is an updated list going to be posted?..... I have a big chunk of 52100 from a bearing race that I got about a year ago, and some maple burle from a tree that fell in the back yard. That should qualify as proper materials now I just need to get to work! Remember....Hit it while it's HOT!!!

Got going on mine tonight - It's a Tai-Goo style Bowie, I call it the "Gooie"

Now I gotta do the handle. I am certain, though, it won't be a sexy socket like Tai's...
