I had to check back with Radio Shack frequently. They normally only get in one or two bottles at a time and they sell out fast (Used for METH MFG). I have also found that some of the clerks have no idea what you are talking about and found it on their shelves after they said they did not have it. I found a RS up here that had a case and purchased 5 bottles. Enough to last for 20yrs or so. I am about an hour north of Eugene. I attend the show every yr. I will have to run some tests on the 15n20 I have and do some comparisons myself. I have never done it before. I will let you know how it turns out.

Chuck I never noticed how close you are to me LOL.

Mike If you can get a piece of known 15N20 and do a heat treat and etch on along with a piece of the mystery steel that way they are processed the same this will give you a better idea. What we are looking for is it being shiny or bright, this tells us that nickel is there and that it is not just carbon steel.

If you have a lot of this you can also send a piece out and have it tested. I was told there is someone that does that for free on another forum. I will see if I can get that info for you.

Mike, Now I'm getting it, I think. We were etching it to see if it had any Nickel in it, not if it had any Carbon it. Steel with Nickel gives you the shiny contrast in the Damascus. The 15N20 has Nickel in it. The mystery steel turned gray, so, low or no Nickel.

Want me to send you a piece to mess with? If I'm being presumptuous just say so, just thinking you got the forge and the 15N20. Or, yeah, if you can pass on the contact for the person who will test it that would be cool too.

Thanks Mike, Chuck, and everyone who commented.

Testing is not normally free. If anyone does please let me know. Chuck Bybee at Alpha Knife Supply http://www.alphaknifesupply.com/ will send it out. He gets a bunch together and sends all of them in. Makes it a bit cheaper. If you give him a call he will put it in the next batch.

Mike Turner, were in SW Or do you live?? I just moved up here 18months ago.
