Adding scales to a steel folder
I just got a Kershaw Ken Onion Shallot. It has a satin finish 410 Stainless Steel handle. It's very thin and too smooth for my taste. Can anyone advise me on adding wooden scales. Can I scuff the surface and glue right to it?

TECHNICALLY, yes, you could do that.
Would I do that? No. It's going to be really hard to get the scales lined up, and without any posts for support, it's very easy for the scales to shear off. Also, you won't be able to get to the screws to re-tighten any that come loose. It looks like you could take it apart and drill from the inside of the existing handle, but that's a lot of work for little gain. Take a look at the KnifeKits.com web page. You can probably find a similar style as a kit and make it as your own. It would be a much more fruitful effort, and besides, you know you can always use another knife! __________________ God bless Texas! Now let's secede!! |
