3rd Knife WIP
G'day All.
As the title says.. my 3rd knife in progress 5 3/4 inch blade. 5mm 1075 Again it has taken ages to get to this stage. Although I had some help from a sanding disc on my angle grinder to remove most of the material. Lots of work to go....mostly being hand finishing and HT, fir which I am building a small forge __________________ R Rogers Knives |

The grind on my 30th knife didn't look that nice, and I'm using a 2x72 belt grinder. Excellent work, keep it coming. My only critique is maybe not a critique, if you are finished shaping the handle then you need to go a little farther and take some of the edges off so it is more comfortable for long term use, but that is it. I am really impressed with that clean grind on the blade.

I love the clean grind lines, it flows very nicely. In fact, I. Wish I could get my finger guards to look like that one! I would agree with Mitch that the edges on the handle could be knocked off, one step at a time....love it!

That's one hefty chunk of steel for sure. Nice clean lines and looking very robust! She probably weighs a kilo. Did you remove any mass from the tang for weight or balance?

Thanks for the responses gents i certainly plan on rounding the edges of the handle a bit more. They are only "roughed" at the moment.
Once Ht is done i will epoxy the scales in place and do the final shaping. Dancom, i havent yet but i think i will drill lots of holes in the tang. Cheers __________________ R Rogers Knives |

Atalley, I rely like the look of the finger gaurd too. Although it is not the most comfortble in certain grips. Oh well... i will leave it for this knife but a lesson learned for the next.....

Today i attempted my first HT. Using my forge and quenching in preheated conola oil. I am fairly certain that i heated it too fast, and as a result, only about 3/8 width of the blade back from the edge reached critical temp. Im not too sure if that is all a bad thing..? But the file skated over the edge allright. Then two 1 hour cycles at 400F. Next thing is to finish it up and Ray will be glad to hear i am going to test the hell out of it. Including breaking it at some stage.
