Great knife John! And welcome to the forums.

I use that same filework pattern. I never knew what it was called. I've just been calling mine bow ties. Does it even have a name?

Welcome John. I am pretty new here too but am here to stay. The CKD folks are special.

Fantastic knife - Love how you pick up the bolster and scale gooving in the file work. And great pics too.

Hope to see more of your work and hear from you soon.
John

Lovely work, John. Is the blade san mai, or did you mask the sawtooth area during the etch?

Thanks for all the great comments. Yes, I guess what I did was mask the sawtooth area before etching.

I like the effect. I gives a definite San Mai look. Bill Pease had a folder at the Blade Show with meteorite bolsters that had the edges masked in the same way.

Call me a copycat, because I want to do that too

Very nice! Alot of work went into the piece. If I put that much file work on something I'm sure I'd screw it up. Good job. I won't even try that etch. Ray

Awesome knife and Awesome photography!

I have been admiring John's work ever since I got hooked up with Terrill and saw John's stuff on Terrill's photo pages.

Another man that does radiused bolsters all the time!
I'm interested in how you do yours John?

That is one sweet knife, with huge attention to detail...there's a lot going on, but it retains a clean elegance...hard to do.

Very sweet, thanks for sharing with us Terrill!

masking

Ok, I'm gonna give you my secret to how to successfully mask a blade like I did on the folder. It is sort of detailed so get your pen.

First, go to you local Wal-Mart or other discount store. With the upmost confidence in who you are amble up to the cosmetic counter and purchase the darkest (black is real good) finger nail polish you can find.

Mosey on to the checkout counter like you are in control.

Get home with your dignity in tack and paint your design on the blade, let dry, and then etch the damascus.

It won't take you many tries till you can do this as good as me.
