Sandblasted Finish
I've seen a beautiful matte finish on a 154CM piece that the maker claims is "blasted." I am pretty sure Santa is bringing me a blasting cabinet for Christmas. Does anyone have any tips and suggestions, advice on blasting media etc.?

You have a choice of sand or glass beads, I have two cabinets and use both. Use sand (aluminum oxide, actually) if you want a dark grey tactical looking finish. Use glass if you want a soft cloudy finish.
In either case, your blade needs to be perfectly finished before you blast it. Do not think for a moment that you can hide some scratches by blasting, won't happen. In the case of glass beads, not only does the finish need to be perfect it also needs to be mirror polished. Anything less than mirror polish and you won't see much effect from glass beads if your blade is really hard like it should be.... |

Thanks Ray. Can you mix glass and sand for different degrees of effect? (maybe a totally newbie question, but hey that's why we are here.)

You could but I doubt it would be worth the trouble since you get almost no effect from glass unless you mirror polish the steel. If you did that then the glass would have its effect - and the sand would erase it.
The control you're looking for comes from varying the air pressure and the distance of the air nozzle to the blade.... |
