Filing guides

There's a filing guide here on Ebay for those who don't want to make their own:

Those look like 1-2-3 set-up blocks for machining (mill).

Cleaver idea tho

Are you the seller? If not, do you know him?

The 1-2-3 blocks are a lot more guide than is necessary, but it they will line up right they should make a good guide for filing shoulders and such.

I might just have to buy those for the 1-2-3 blocks!

Yeah, Ed, I haven't priced any 1-2-3 blocks in a long time, but it seems to be pretty inexpensive for a decent set. Maybe dual use, on the mill and as a file guide.

This guy has sold these in the past on Ebay for as much as $25. He's dropped his price the past few days from close to $20 to about $11, and he is sitting on 11 of them. If you contact him directly after the auction closes tonight, he might bargain, who knows.

Enco, MSC, and Travers have them for about $8 a pair pretty regularly. I've used a set for the past year and they work great as filing guides. When I first found them they were $12.99, and they haven't been that much since then. Here's a link to a thread on KF that tells all about it:

I hope this is helpful.
Thanks,
Bob

Hey Medit8, I followed the link to KF and the link on that thread had a bad part number for MSC. I went to MSC and searched for 'set-up block' and '1-2-3' and did not find anything that looked like those pictured above. Would you have a good link, part number or accurate description? Thanks.

Yo Randy,
Small world that it is, both ENCO and Travers have them on sale in the catalogs that came out this week......
ENCO $8.50 - model# NS630-4010 - "Hot Deals" Catalog Vol. 7 Issue NS tel# 1800-873-3626
Travers $7.90 - Model#G-123-BS ORDER#WH57-101-002 I don't see a specific catalog #, but the prices are valid thru 5/14/07 tel# 1-800-221-0270
They all have the same specs, which I guess are standard for 1-2-3 blocks.
I think you'll find them very functional and at least as long-lasting as the higher priced file guides. Mine have shown no wear whatsoever.
Bob
