Need copper rod

If anyone has a small chunk of copper around 3/4"-1" round/square and 4-6" long I would be interested in buying it. I lost my machinist hammer for knocking out tooling without marring the steel and need to make another. It does not matter how rough or dented it might be. Brass or bronze would also work. I know you can buy them fairly cheap but I want to make my own.

Hey Brent,

I know you like melting stuff, why not cast a piece big enough for the job?

I have some brass that I can send you, the only copper I have is in sheets or 1/8 rod and the only bronze I have is 3 inch tubing.

If so let me know

Mike, I allready got a chunk of furnace brick and drilled out a 1"x4" hole for a one time crucible. I realized how much scrap copper I had laying around and decided to go primal and do it from scratch. Great minds think alike!

Tazzer, if the casting does not go well I will buy the brass from you. Give me a PM for the cost with shipping.

Take some pics and let me know how it goes I need a new copper hammer as well the brick sounds interesting! I too have a good amount of copper and brass that is not much good as is but melted into something bigger would be useful.

I cast a spare crucible out of Greencast 3000 refractory cement. It is 1"x3 1/2" deep. If I don't use it I can send it to you. So far the brick crucible seemed to work. I did photo document the whole process today.
