Late April Hammer-in?
Well, I cleaned out the garage and even swept the floor. It's a shame to let the cleanliness go to waste! Who's up for a get-together late in April (25th or 26th?).

Sounds good to me I should have my forge ready for lining about then. Just set a date.

You cleaned out the garage? So there's nothing radioactive, explosive, toxic, or otherwise venomous?
Kinda takes the fun out of it, doesn't it? I've been moving things around in my garage. ("Cleaning" would just not be an accurate term at this point. "Excavating" might be better.) I keep finding these rusting pieces of metal that were unfinished projects. I gotta get back in the swing of things before I lose what few skills I've got! Set a date! __________________ God bless Texas! Now let's secede!! |

Well....I wouldn't go that far! It's been cleaned, organized and swept....not remediated. I'll consult with Jen and make sure there aren't any other issues that weekend. Sundays are usually better for me...does it make a difference for anyone else between a Sat or Sun? As for projects....something that doesn't take six people six hours to hammer into a bar! |

Let me know which day & my wife will confirm (the social secritary, ok the boss).
Let me know what to bring. This will be my first time at one. Jim __________________ I cook with a flair for the dramatic, and depraved indifference to calories |

OK, Sunday, April 26th, 11am-6pm.
General "open forge". Bring a project you're working on or needing help with and Chris Daigle will personally answer all questions and provide amazing mystical insight. Bring your own sacrificial black cat, though. Seriously, though, if you have something you want input on, bring it on down. If we don't have an answer, we'll figure it out together or make something up! I still have cylinder sections if anyone want's to build a forge. If you want to put one together sunday, email me well ahead of time for a parts list and you'll go home Sunday with a burner and a forge. Weather permitting, we'll do a little old-fashioned iron smelting using charcoal and hematite ore. |

Not to mention that Stan is venturing into heat treating the exotic alloys now! Thanks again Stan. The CPM 3V is turning out to be an awesome steel! If I'm able to make it, I might be able to have something for show and tell. And it bends in the middle! Chris |

Rick, sneaking away from kitchen duty is easy. Boss-man is a whole 'notha thing. Said project: WIP if you will. CPM 3V steel heat treated by our very own Stan the heat treat man. He though I was crazy for not grinding bevels before treating. He might be right. But it's one way to hopefully keep away the dreaded warpage. Throw in a little titanium for liners and desert ironwood for handles. You might just have a wharncliffe liner lock... Chris |

Hah, I figured that would get a response! I actually plan on doing a few folders coming up as well. I've even made the parts out of construction paper. I'll probably do an aluminum version to see if the ideas really work like they're supposed to. I guess it would be termed an axis-lock design. Hope you make it out Chris.
Jim, Several who have come out are grinder-types. Grinding tips and tricks are always, always, welcome! Be careful, though....you may get bit by the contagious forge or damascus bug down here! |

I have some "real" crucibles now and am making a new melting furnace. What do y'all think about doing some crucible wootz at the hammer-in?
