Talking Protective Blade Coating!

The other day I was chatting with AWP, and asked how I could keep some of my blades from rusting, he siggested oil or wax, but I thought of something mroe durable, so I went and tried it out on a rusty throwing knife. I sanded the rust off, and while it was still a bit rusty, and really scratched, I applied a polyurethane coat all of the blade. when it dried, it looked EXACTLY the same as it did before, but felt like glass.

I dont know if this is old news to all of you, but it was like the rosetta stone to me.

When you buy stainless - like ATS-34 - it comes with a black patina that is really tough to get off the surface. In fact, you can ruin a belt on it.

Wouldn't that be a great coating for a finished knife?

So how do I get that?
