Very nice work Andy. It takes far more patience than most of us have to make those folders.
When will it be finished? We want to see pictures from all angles then What's the heat-treat oven and where did you find it? Roger |

Hi Alan,
the oven problem is only down to a door seal that needs replacing. I have some flat woven asbestos tape that should do the job, I only need the time!!!!. Roger, Hope to have it finished in a couple of weeks, once I've got my relatives back over the water to Ireland and life gets back to normal!. I have a new digital camera since this shot was taken, so will do a few shots of the internals before final assembly, and a few shots completed. I found the oven in Nottingham, its just big enough for knives and has a digital temp control. There is no makers name but at ?40.00 I was,nt to bothered!!!. I put out a request for one on this web site for model engineers :- http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~chrish/homepage.htm I have bought lots of tooling at great prices from the guys here. Andy.. |

Andy
Email me an address and I will send that piece of damascas FOC I dont seem to get any time to work on Knifes I have antique work that is 2 months delinquent And I'm sure you will make a better job of it than me. maybe I could trade the finished damascas back from you. I have made some jigs to make sliplock folders you might have a use for. thesae jigs can be used to drill of the holes and fine tune the fitting A bit like the pins in the board that are in the tutorial all the best Alan still crazy after all these years. |

Thanks Alan, I would really like to work on that piece of Damascus.
I have sent you my address via email Alan. In return I promise I will make you a slip joint knife from a piece of it if I ever manage to get the oven up to spec.If not I'm going back to good old O1 tool steel!!!! The jigs sound as though they could be very usefull also. I've been taking a few shots with the new camera and have done a montage(spelling?) of the knife so far. .. Thanks again, Andy Last edited by andy gascoigne; 07-28-2002 at 12:15 PM. |
