checkering files

Sure surprised at how much a checkering file to to the jimping on a knife cost. Is there any place that has these at a good price? Or another way to do this?

Are you wanting to use the files for handle material or for file work on knife steel ?

Since I am not sure of your intended use, you may want to check out LOPACKI.COM, Daniel is a lapidary and sells some great files.

But, if you are truly looking for a checkering file, do a internet search for Gunsmith or Wood Working Tools.

Brownells has always sold Metal checkering files,I think K$G sell them to.
They are and always have been expensive but they last a long time.I have been making for almost 40 years and have purchased 2 sets in that time.

You can get checkering files from b2bbusiness.com. Tom is the man to talk to. His phone number is (760) 322-6037. The files are made by Grobet and fairly expensive but probably the best you can get.

Grobet are what I have too. Don't expect to find a $15 dollar file or it to last if you do. They need tuning from the package, instructions tell you how. I am about to work on a spine some with a 40 LPI file as practice before I get into sight blades and the rear of a slide on a 1911.
