New custom

Here is a pic of a knife I just picked up. Cute lil' bugger around 6 1/4" OAL. Anyone recognize that mark? To say I am thrilled is an understatement.

Stole it on ebay. Sweated 4 days, no other bids. The seller was??? about why no one else bid. Me too, but I did not argue.

Dude I am ultimately jealous. I have admired Waynes work since I first started thinking about making knives. I may just drive up to Ohio just to touch it if you dont mind, it would give me a good excuse to go see my mom in Bellevue.

Cool knife. The makers mark looks awfully similer to Wayne Goddard's mark. Is it or is it just really similer?

Roc, I like it! Very cool! Here's a magnification of the maker's mark on one of Wayne Goddard's knives at bladegallery.com :

Hey, you could ask him about it - here's his e-mail address from the ABS website: wgoddard44@earthlink.net

Roc, Still no word back from Wayne. The sheath alone tells me you do have one of his knives. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from him....... Ray

Just got this from Wayne....

Yup, that's one I made, band saw steel most likely, elk antler handle, the chiseled logo dates it prior to 1975 and it's later than 1972... without knowing the original owner so I can check my records, hard to nail down the exact date. I probably sold that knife for $25.00. - or close.

Thanks Ray, for verifieng that for me so quickly. I was in a tizzy for a minute there. The whole time I was bidding watching and waiting, the thought never occurred to be that this knife could be a fake. It gives me pause to wonder if I am that trusting, or that stupid. Aside from the money, which was a pitance, the thought of such identity theft of a mans lifes work, love and art, wounds ones faith in human nature. Those are the kind of wounds that never heal. Thanks again for getting right on that.

(side note) I had emailed Ray in a panic at 5am this morning.

Your welcome!

For some reason I was up watching a movie and it was over at 1am and I just happened to check my email. Normally I'm in bed at 10 pm or asleep in my chair. For the life of me I can't remember what movie I watched.

As for Wayne's mark I know he's done varrations of it. He's only been making knives for well over 30 years. I've changed mine a number of times in just 10 years.

For the most part Wayne's style is pretty recognizable even over the number of years he's been making......
