Hi David,
I think the main reason they have dropped is the confusion that is caused by the knives still being produced with the Cooper name on them. Same thing happened with Lile. They have only recently started to go up in price. The pre-death or no "dot" Lile have started to up in value. Due directly to the fact that people now understand or are stating to understand the difference the "dot" means. The down side is that the value of the "dot" knives are now going to suffer. So now with the Coopers, enough confusion has been created due to lack of knowledge among collectors. That many have resisted the temptation to buy an expensive Cooper. Conversly, many buyers are not interested in the less expensive Coopers. Many people figuring that these were not acutally made by him or not. I suspect that some Coopers are still in demand, example the ones he made in Virginia. As they are stamped as such. The best thing you can do to increase the price of your knives is educated possible buyers. __________________ Les Robertson Custom Knife Entrepreneur Field Editor for Blade Magazine www.robertsoncustomcutlery.com |
