Stan Fujisaka & Bob Lum

Anybody here who is really into these makers? I have owned a few Lums in the past and I think I'd like to pick up a few more. On www.bladeart.com, there are a couple of Lums that really remind me of the old Spyderco Calypsos. They are large knives with really sweet looking flat grinds. One is titanium, the other is carbon fiber. I also saw some great small Lums on www.truenorthknives.com. These have S30V blades, but the proces are really high. I guess in terms of pricing, Lum is on par with Terzoula. Both, however, have truly outstanding fit and finish.

I've also been checking out Stan Fujisaka. I saw one of his folders in person last year, and I was impressed with how cleanly executed this knife was. It was simple micarta, with titanium bolsters, and an ATS-34 blade, but it just looked good! I have my eye on a couple of similar knives of his that I have seen on the net. I hope to get either a Fujisaka or Lum in the near future if everything works out financially. I just want to know what you guys think of these two makers?

First choice on a gent's folder: Stan Fujisaka.
For hard use, I probably would suggest the Lum.

I absolutely LOVE my Stan Fujisaka folder, and I have handled a number of them. He is without peers when it comes to smoothness and ease of opening and closing. Because of this, his gent's folders are probably not set up to do the hard work as effectively. If thats a concern.

Welcome aboard!

Coop

I 'm inclined to view Fujisaka as primarily a gents folder maker. He makes beautiful knives that are best carried in pouch while wearing slacks or a suit. Fujisaka's knives are pretty like a picture, Lum's knives are beautiful in an engineering or design sense like a car or a bridge. If I get a knife from either this summer, it would probably be Fujisaka because his plain micarta knives are under $500 and all the Lums I like run between $550-$800.

I'm a Lum fan for sure. I have one of the big Chinese Folders (similar to the spyderco one, but bigger) Great knife, I use it when camping or cooking outdoors all the time, tall flat grind works great at prying frozen hamburger patties apart

I like this knife so much it's in my steady rotation.

I carry either the Lum Large Chinese Folder or a Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx spearpoint.

lately I have added to the mix my two newest purchases
a Louis Van Der Walt "dragonfly" and an Elishewitz/Abramson gents folder

AQC.., a good idea on inquiring more about Bob's knives.., would be to talk with Tony Wang (one of the Moderators on the Balisong Forum)...

Tony has an incredible collection of Bob's knives, and probably owns 5-8% of all the knives Bob has made.... REALLY!!

Very nice guy too..., so wonder over the the Bali-Forum and shoot him an email. He'd be glad to help you out.

Jerry, I just got one of the DragonFly folders this past weekend on a trade, what a beauty of a knife, it's stiff to open as the detent is strong but you get use to it and it's actually not bad as you know it won't ever open in your pocket!

The blade edge thickness, I've been looking for someone that made a knife with a super thin edge and this sucker cuts! The fellow that had it was using it and needed a sharpening, no problem, and now she sings!

I finally picked up a Fujisaka in a trade. I think that it will end up being a safe queen because it is way to nice to risk damaging.

Hi Gary, I really like that knife. It's all washable too, with a Ti lock and Aluminum handles. It's definetly in my rotation of knives.
