What Do I Charge???
I know this is an off the wall question for the forum, but I was wondering if anyone here might have some input.
I was asked what I would charge to buff golf club heads. Not take out scratches, just buff the finish that is there. Guy is buying and reselling used clubs. Got one set from him, to try @ $4 per club. In retrospect that seems a little cheap to me. Any thoughts?? What to charge???
Well, you've already established a price........unless you told the fella that the first ones would be a "test batch", you might be stuck. Depending on how badly you want the work, I would suggest visiting a golf shop and asking what they charge for polishing clubs. If your wanting the business, you could charge a bit less than the golf shop.
I personally have a policy in my shop that repair work (anything other than actually making a knife, or working on one that I've made) is charged at my hourly shop rate. If your too cheap on the price of something, your gona be covered up with it, and never have time to do other things. It's just kind of a "feel out" process. Good Luck on it! __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |

That was the way I set it up with the customer, $4 per head on this batch then we would discuss a price.
Thanks Ed God Bless Mike __________________ "I cherish the Hammer of Thor, but I praise the hand of God" |

OK,Mike,
How many per hour TIMES 4.00 each. Does that add up to your shop rate? How many per hour Times(what) equals your shop rate? Now thats how you figure.Hope it helps. |

That makes perfect sense.
I have to get over the "Well I wasn't doing anything else anyway" attitude. Anyone else have problems with this? I know it is a problem for me. Thanks for the input guys. God Bless Mike __________________ "I cherish the Hammer of Thor, but I praise the hand of God" |

Well, What's your time worth?
If I send you a file and a stick, can you make it a knife for me for free?(just kidding to make the point) All of us trade our hours for dollars in one way or another, only you can decide what your time and talent are worth. A boss just tells you what your time is worth "to HIM". Don't forget to consider your time, talent, and training. If it had NO worth, neither would your work. A shop rate does not imply that you make that amount EVERY hour. It is more a goal to shoot for, an expectation of traded worth, a value exchange if you will. There's a good thread about setting shop rates around here somewhere that Ed started, I believe. ...But my point was if your time does not have value, your product can't.8o |
