Homebuilt Anvil Stand
Besides the post I just made on my new forge I also just finished a stand for my anvil out of finished plywood and a 2" X 8" X 8'.
Coated the stand with 2 coats of some Olympic Waterproof Sealer Wood Toner I had lying around. Burnt finish by using the venturi burner from my forge. 1/2" galvanized chain and tensioners hold it down. Base is 2" wider than the top. 2 stabilizing rails along the length of the base. Pretty cheap, under $30 to build. Had the lag bolts and chain. In case you are wondering it is a farriers anvil and is new. I tried locally to source a good condition used anvil and found abused crap except some 300 pounders that were real nice but $$$. By the time I would have found one outside the city the gas and search would have cost me probably more than I paid. Have a friend that works at a farm store and researched the Cliff Carroll anvils and read nothing but good stuff. 125lb anvil doesn't ring much on this stand and is rock solid. Welcome any comments. Thanks. Tony Z (CLICK ON THE PICS FOR MORE PICS) __________________ ABS Apprentice Bladesmith USMC Veteran VFW Life Member "Retreat? Hell, we just got here!" That is a thing of beauty compared to my humble little home made A2 blade maker seen here...

Thanks for the nice comments Sanch! That pic was earlier this year and the anvil has aged now.
I like your A2 blademaker and would love to see some close-up pics of it! Yours looks portable and that would be great for me for some occasions. Thanks! Wow, looks really nice. What did you use (steel) for the face and the base underneath? And how thick were the pieces? I really like!

The three pieces are all A2 tool steel the largest which is the face is one inch thick the second largest is 1 1/2 or 1 5/8 inches thick as well as the last they were TIg welded and hardened where I work the harness was tested to be 58 Rockwell on a proper machine, the legs and all other stuff is scrap mild steel.
