Metal throats for a sheath

I've soldered small pins on the inside that can get a bite... but that measn you have to rivet the throat closed... or you could insert a rivet from *inside* the sheath; have it come out and rivet it invisibly or exposed.
I've used small pins that I inserted through a pre-drilled hole and epoxied in place, then filed smooth & polished. Also... I've just made it a #### tight friction fit and epoxy / superglued it there. None have come back yet... |

throat
Thanks for the reply.
I have been making the throat out of nickel silver and soldering the throat together. At the tip I also soldered a pc of nickel silver on the end of the throat (can be for a ball). So now I have a cup. I have thought of putting a pin in the throat at the top and not drilling to the other side and glueing the pin in and doing the same on the other side. Is this what you mean? Also do you make the throat first or the sheath? Thanks. Dan www.theknifemaker.com |

Dan,
What you have described is one of the methods I have used. If you glue that pin in and file / sand / polish it you should get a near invisible mark; assuming that your wire and drill are the same gauge. I usually make the sheath first because it is very easy to fit the throat to it once you've made a few. Good luck! |

curved throat
Thanks. I am making a throat that is curved and have made two patterns of the curve and clamp together to bend the metal over but I get a crimp and am having a problem getting the sides to line up. Any tips to keeps the two pcs from crimping?
