100 lb propane tank refill

I was cruising this forum and saw an old comment about "old refill valves." I bought two 100 lb used tanks recently but haven't attempted to have them filled. Does the prohibition on filling through these older valves apply to the 100 lb size? Thank you...again. Hadley

I belive if they are horizontal tanks they are exempt. I know horizontal tanks in an RV are.

The weld shop where I get mine filled checks the valves for me regularly, and had to replace one last year. Much cheeper than wasting gas or not getting the right flow.
I think it was less than 30 bucks total, plus filling.

The new Overflow Prevention valves are not required on the 100lb tanks. They are only required on tanks carried on RV's, 20, 30 and 40lb tanks require the new OPD valve. If you get a Forklift tank they do not require them nor do the horizontal saddle tanks.

Not the valves, but the tanks themselves may need to be recertified. Which doesn't cost much, but sometimes making new tanks a better deal.
