Reno show
Hey Ed,
Thanks for posting those pictures! I truly appreciate the totality of your knives meaning the sheath, the engraving (when its done), and the attention to detail. Truly, knives worthy of an ABS MasterSmith, and an inspiration to us all. Outstanding! Tom |

you must have spent allot of time forging mosaic to get that line up, sure wish i could see them all in person. the folder looks stunning i like the contrast between busy mosaic and clean simple engraving. and that bokote burl nocked my socks off.
good luck at the show ed, brett __________________ Brett Holmes. Australian knife maker extraordinaire |

ED,everyone always looks at the steel, but you have some of the best looking handles on this forum. i would like to know how you get the stippled effect on wood.By the way, i now have all three of your videos from cciv.they are great.thanks for sharing your craft with us

Thanks for all the kind comments folks! Hope I don't bring a single one of them back home from Reno!!
Trav: The carving/texturing on the handles is done with a variety of tools, most importantly are the "turbo-carver" (a 400,000rpm dremel type tool, which takes 1/16" burrs) and the riffler files. I make everything out with a grease pencil, then use the turbo carver to lightly outline, then do to work with the riffler files to make the outline clean and sharp. Then comes the tedious part..... the stippling itself is done with the Turbo-carver.....one dot at a time. On a handle with a lot of stippling, it can take up to an hour per side of the handle. I like it because I think it adds another dimension to a knife. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |
