Almost ebony and ivory
It's actually African Blackwood and giraffe bone. Same continent and colors anyway. It has a 3" blade of CPM S30V, Mosaic pins and copper thong hole liner that matches the pins. This is a design by Calvin(not Klein) and is headed to Florida "where twelve foot gators are common and everybody has a john boat".

Skip,
The handles are dove-tailed and the tang is tapered. The steel is 3/16" thick, hollow ground on a 14" wheel. This makes a strong, compact package. |

Joe,
We have a jig that we put on our grinder and just run the material into the belt. It cuts a 45 angle. When you taper the tang you just place a proper thickness spacer under the front edge to adjust the angle on the handle material to match the bolster material. If you can make the next Ga. Guild meeting I will be glad to demonstrate it and let you do a few. |

Charlie, nice knife.
I'm sure more than just a couple of us would like to see you demo the dovetail technique. What's become of the forged blade(s) you did at Trackrock? __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Carl,
I will see about adding the demonstration to the others at the next Ga. Guild meeting. As for the forged blade, I figured it needed some stress relief after all those thermal cycles and all that beating with a hammer. I have heard about stress cracks, so it has been in a cool, dark, relaxing place being relieved of all it's pent up stresses and frustrations while I develop a talent for making folding knives and work on some customers knives to keep the checks coming in. |
