Flag project
I've covered this at least partially but not sure if I've covered it completely about the banner for the Alligator on my posts.
As most know I'm in the Navy reserves after serving six years during the late 80's early 90's. While my ship was over in the Red Sea I was given a flag that flew over my ship during Desert Storm. I have been making a project of this flag (that was going to be in my retirement case, more on that later) of having it flown over historical ships, sites, and monuments around the country. Considered other countries but flying an US flag might chap a few people. I have been researching it for over five years and have compiled a list of over one hundred sites that I have been able to contact and get permission to fly the flag at. The flag had flown over 30 of the sites until it was lost by a Navy ship in DC. I have been given another flag courtesy of the USS Nimitz and will try to start over again. I will be able to have it flown at the other sites but I have always tried to schedule the flights during anniversaries, such as the 50th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Nautilus and the 50th anniversary of Iowa Jima. There is no way to redo these. Here a list of most of the sites I have collect: SITE-COLONAL JAMESTOWN SITE-REVOLUTIONARY WAR BUCKMAN TAVERN BUNKER (BREEDS) HILL CONCORD, MA GUILFORD COURT INDEPENDENCE HALL MOORES CREEK MOUNT VERNON ESTATE OLD NORTH CHURCH SARATOGA VALLY FORGE YORKTOWN BATTLE SITE YORKTOWN NATIONAL CEMETERY SITE-WAR OF 1812 STAR-SPANGLED BANNER HOUSE-MARY PICKARDSBILL FORT MCHENRY SITE-AMERICAN CIVIL WAR ANTIETAM NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD-ANTIETAM NATIONAL CEMETARY APPOMATTOX COURT HOUSE GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK MANASSAS (BULL RUN) SITE-WAR OF TEXAS INDEPENDENCE ALAMO SAN JACENTA BATTLE SITE SITE-WORLD WAR II ARIZONA MEMORIAL MUSEUM IWO JIMA NATIONAL MEMORIAL NATIONAL D-DAY MEMORIAL FOUNDATION NATIONAL D-DAYMUSEUM NEW ORLEANS SITE-MILITARY BASES/ CEMETARIES FLEET RESERVE ASSOCIATION PEARL HARBOR HONOLULU KANSAS CITY NAVAL RESERVE CENTER NAR FT WORTH NAVAL STATION GUANTANAMO BAY, CUBA SITE-MODERN MISC PENTAGON US CAPITOL US NAVAL MEMORIAL SHIP SS AMERICAN VICTORY SS JOHN W. I belong to a couple of historic ships groups to try and track them but no one covers everything. Thanks to listening to the long winded explanation, Jim __________________ I cook with a flair for the dramatic, and depraved indifference to calories Last edited by Drac; 10-11-2006 at 04:40 PM. |
