"Rade's" Hawk (my latest)
Just finished this one up. It will be sent off to Rade Hawkins on monday. The head is 1084 and 15N20, handle is maple (Rade sent me the handle), trimmed out in antique leather, beaver fur, authentic trade beads, and a turkey feather. I was pleased with how it came out, and hope it was worth the year + wait for Rade. |

Rade's Hawk
Nope. No nickel. It's 1084 and 15N20 (my standard mix for damscus) I enhance the contrast by using baking laquer. |

Re: Rade's Hawk
Ed, Would you mind giving us your technique on applying the baking lacquer? It's a beautiful finish. Gary Mulkey |

What was the count that you started with and how many folds. I use the same in my damascus 1084 &15n20, ever once in awhile I put in nickel. Tomorrow I am try to do a 4 bar composite billet with 1084,1095,15n20 & nickel. I am attempting to attain a Chevorn pattern. 2 bars twisted to the left and 2 bars twisted to the right. I am starting with a 15 count billet, with only 1 parts nickel in each. |

Ed, how long was the slit in the billet before it was drifted to size ? Did you drill 2 holes as guides for the slitting chisel ? What's the final diameter of the eye ? Sorry for so many questions but it's nice to have a master smith to answer them. |
