D-Guard

Here is a new D-guard I just finished. The 1 7/8" X 11" blade is forged from 1080 steel the overall length is 16 1/4". The guard and fittings are nitre-blued mild steel with the exception of the nickel silver spacer. The handle material is female walrus ivory. The quench line and the swedge are lost in the pic. I will try to get a better overall pic. I hope you enjoy.

Thumbs up

HI Craig
Super Nice D-Guard
I've really been interested in makeing a D-guard bowie lately. Do you have any good reference sites on them.
I really like the nitre-blued guard and the walrus handle.
I'll be forgeing to finish mine and useing more traditional handle material.
I really like it man and hope to see more of your work.

I LIKE that knife. Love the nitre-blued parts. I have everything from Brownells to do nitre-blueing, cept for a pot and burner. Like the filework on the Nickel Silver also.

Wow! Very nice!

I like the nice clean look and the contrast of the blued guard to the rest of the knife.

Great knife.

Craig,

Very nice (as always). Female ivory? Now if you can find some female oosic you'll really have something.

Thanks everyone! There is suppossed to be a book coming out in the near future on D-guards, I have been keeping my eyes open but haven't seen it yet.

Gary, if we find female oosics there might be a problem! The female walrus tusks are suposed to have smaller core than the males.

Just when I think I've seen everything ....... I love the handle composition, the contrast between the silver, blue and ivory is fantastic. And with the D-guard this one definitely demands attention.

Oh yeh, nice blade too Gonna have one of these for PKA ??

Mike

Hi Mike,

I may have a D-guard for the PKA show. I did one a couple of years ago for the PKA show and it won best bowie and best of show.

I have been debating on doing one for my Journeyman Smith test knives at Blade this year.

Craig

Beautiful knife Craig. Mind if I copy it in miniature? I like the looks and have some fossil ivory scrap that will match the handle. The "D" guard in miniature will be the toughest challenge. I'm thinking overall length to be 1.5" to 1.75".
