S Lee Hands for Carlos Lopez BarryR Johnson Big Bear engraved by

Many years ago, Steve Lindsay hooked me up with S R Johnson working on a knife for David Darom.
That has led to a series of colabs between SRJ and I including our most recent and spectacular for Carl Lopez.
Below is a series of pics showing some of the design work and execution of the installation of the gold and diamonds.

Thank you, Barry. It's always so amazing to see what you have to do to engrave a piece, especially something like this "Full-integral Big Bear." Inspiring!

Thanks Big John and Zane.

Here is another one for you.

A place is made for the gold and arches raised:

A piece of gold cut has been cut out and the edges burnished. It is checked for fit:

Pushed into place with a bamboo rod ( learned this trick studying damascene in Kyoto , Japan)

we start punching it down with a piece of 1/8 round momax ( my friend Dan Goodwin, who taught me hammer and chisel gave me a couple of feet

of this wonderful stuff back in the 80's):

We keep punching:

Until all is well and secure:

Thank you, very much, Larry. The is a ton of work that goes into those Integral Big Bears, and the engraving is beyond belief, time and talent-wise!
