Pistol Companion

When I was in London last year - or rather a year and a half ago - working the Summer Olympics, I picked up two little antique pinfire revolvers as souvenirs. I made a gimlet knife for the bigger one as a "companion knife", but it took me over a year to make a companion for the other one. This is a tiny 5mm calibre pistol, all of 5 3/8 inches long. So, I wanted to make a small knife to pair it up with. It's also only 5 3/8 inches by 1 1/4 inches. I made the case and knife to fit the pistol (1850's). The knife is my own damascus, with brass bolster and pins, and cocobolo scales. Cute but obviously not a lot of use except to trim your fingernails...
Hope you like it!

Very Neat Chris!!
I bet getting rounds for that gun is near impossible...not that you'd want to shoot it i think.

You're quite right - the rounds are about $10 each and no, I wouldn't advise trying to shoot it. Chances are it would blow to bits.

The pinfire was bad technology, but it is surprising how long they continued to sell.

Nice job with the knife and display!

Very nice, and interesting damascus pattern... I can see that being a useful knife, especially with small game dressing... just right for rabbits.

Thanks, guys. I have a tiny 2mm pinfire pistol from my grandfather which fires tiny 2mm blanks. It does work and did so consistently as I remember, although I have not used it since I was a kid. I remember it being very loud. I suppose pinfire technology was still a step up from muzzle loaders and the cloth cartridges of Napoleon's days. The damascus is rods of W1 with 1085 and nickel in a "can". I forged it into a square bar and then gave it a 360 degree twist before flattening it out. Turned out quite nice.

Bet someone could loose a toe carrying that pistol while drinking. Love the knife and the pistol.

Beautiful work. I would not call that blade only good for trimming finger nails. I use a pocket knife for skinning deer.
