I started building a forge.

I decided I'd build a forge to do heat treating in, this is a 12" pipe and I hope I didn't go over board with the 2 burner design but it sounded good at the time, I've got to add doors on the ends and insulate with kaowool and cover that in refractory cement.

I fired it up this afternoon and it worked but I couldn't see the flame, I'll fire it up again after dark.

Here's some pics of what I've got done so far.

I had to thread the mig tip and also put thread in the brass tube. It's a .035 tip

The plastic tube was just for a test run, I'll change it to gas line later.

Here's the business end of the burner, I'm going to cut the threads off really not sure if I'm going to use the stainless flair yet or not, I guess it just depends on how the flame looks.

Looks like a pretty good start. A 12" tube is very big but with two burners it could be OK, might use a lot of gas but will probably work fine ...

Here's a pic of the flame, the choke is working great! I'm going to try moving the burners and tip in and out some just to see if it will fine tune any, I think it looks pretty good for my first try.

Alot is going to change when you get the lining in and button up the ends, but you shouldn't have any trouble getting it dialed in.
Ever consider casting your flares in place with the mortar you use to coat the interior? Has worked quite well for me. They don't burn out like the metal ones will.

Casting flares never even crossed my mind, but it's a great idea, can you tell me how it's done?
