Which features most important?
I am spending a lot of time looking at the reviews and specs for the digital cameras and am now thoroughly confused. This camera will be used almost exclusively for knife pictures. What are the critical features? I was thinking that optical zoom would be good but is that the ability to get real close which would apply or the ability to get things really far away, which would be useless for my purposes.
So I guess my question is "What two or three features would you key on for a digital camera purchase? Thanks once again for all the help. Steve __________________ Stephen Vanderkolff Please come on over and check out my website. http://www.vanderkolffknives.com/ Thanks |

Excellent close up/macro function.
Manual control of f-stop. Excellent lens with OPTICAL zoom. (or a camera that takes lenses). Tripod mount and self-timer would be high on my list too. I am strongly considering an optical body that will take my range of lenses...heavy and expensive compared to my current shirt pocket digital but the capabilities are vastly better, especially macro functions. Optical zoom can be used for both far away and for closeups, but it really can have an effect on the closeup abilities of the camera. Test whatever you decide on at both ends of the zoom range for closeup shots. Sometimes zooming will drastically change the distance the camera needs to focus so it may or may not be work well for you. My camera when zoomed out cannot focus close enough to be much of an advantage to me. I have an assortment of lenses for my film camera that range from macro to telephoto, having this range for a knife shot would really be nice to have.
