Fred Rink
Had a very good Christmas dinner at my folks. Mom brought out a knife to cut the turkey with that was purchased probably in the late 50s.It is a stock removal blade made by Fred W.Rink from a hand saw blade. He operated a knife shop on Highway 15,I think it was on the north side of Harrisburg Pa.I rememberDad and I stopping there and seeing the ceiling of the two car garage shop hanging full of saw handles that Mr Rink had saved,a world map on the wall had a pin in every state and country that his blades had gone to and it was covered in pins.Has anyone else ever had the chance to try one of his excellent knives or stop by his place?Does anyone know if he is still in business?--Glenn--

Never heard of the gentleman, but would love to see a picture of his knife. I think most rural communities (at least in the east) tend to have someone who made kitchen cutlery out of saw blades. I frequently visit friends' homes only to find they have their parents' or grandparents' old kitchen knives made from saw blades, now in various shades of gray, some with fancier handles than others, but the one thing in common they share is that they're all still cutting. Reminds me of Gene Chapman's wonderful little book, "Country Knives." Always invokes good images and memories.

Fred Rink knife
I have a knife that is hand made by Fred Rink. It is 15 3/8" long overall, blade is 9 5/8" long, and 1 13/16" high at it's highest point. It came from my grand parents who were from Harrisburg, PA. I have several images, but do not know how to attach them to this reply. Feel free to email me if you would like, and I will send the photos directly to you. My direct email is harryneale@gmail.com
