guidance

I'm looking for guidance in relation to an early 50's Randall 4-7 I own.
There is a SS# engraved 2 places and monogram in NS set in the butt.
My question is, how do I research such a number? Most likely the original owner has passed. I'm going with the assumption this was a knife purchased for serious social situations rather than hunting use as the false edge is sharpened.
Also, I'm in need of a brown button snap for the stone flap. Are they still available thru secondary sources?
The knife was in Fla last week and the shop did not think it was a candidate for refurbishing.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Bruce
As to the SS#, perhaps the SS administration, but they probably would not give that info out.
As to the brown button, I have not seen any available except on a sheath. Maybe you can find a sheath that is shot, and have someone that knows how transfer it to your sheath. Don't know if its possible to take one off and reattach, especially after all those years.
Just my 2? worth.
Good luck on your quest, and let us know how it turns out.

Regards, Samg

Thanks SamG. It's a quest , fer sure!
When I acquired this piece, I showed it to Tom Clinton. he had told me where to find buttons, but that's been 10 yrs or more and I just don't remember.

If it was Tom Clinton, have you checked with his son Gary?

I'd love to see a photo of that knife, Bruce. Is that possible?

Thanks,

Ron
