High Carbon- (non-stainless) blanks
I had the opportunity to re-handle a old high carbon blade. I really dug the patina, and whole look. I have been looking for some blanks like this, and I have found some Solingen blades, like what used to be in the Jantz catalog at some places, like trackofthewolf.com and Heimdinger cutlery. the only problem is I really like drop point blades, and the one I liked is not manufactured any more. Does anyone know of another source for non-stainless blades?

Sheffield's has some carbon blades, some of which could possibly be re-shaped into the drop point you want.
Don't over look the possibility of making it yourself. That's the surest way of getting what you want... |

Google for Jedediah Smith. I don't have their website handy, but they list some Solingen drop points. They are slender blades, with a stick/hidden tang. Also look for Russell Green River knives. Their ripper, boning, or dadley Green River knives may be what you are looking for.

Think you can be a little bit more specific on the Jedediah Smith name? I get about 1,000+ hits mostly refering to the explorer or the park.

Sorry, wrong Jedediah!!!
It's Jedediah Starr: https://www.jedediah-starr.com/thumb...&deep=1&cid=82 It looks like they've revamped their site recently, and not all the pics are up. But keep a lookout. Last edited by NJStricker; 12-13-2007 at 10:44 AM. |
