Rattlesnake Hunter

Rattle Snake Hunter -
Here's a little change of pace. This is the third sheath I put together for the upcoming Custom Knife Sheath how-to video from Center Cross Instructional Videos.
The rattler skin inlay is courtesy of fitzo. The inlays are sewn in at 10 stitches per inch with Barbour's fine quality 2 oz Hemp Thread, courtesy of Mark Williams.- Thanks guys! It is fully lined with calfskin so that no stitching is exposed. The main seam is at 6 SPI with Barbour's 5 cord Linen Thread.
The knife a - Bullnose Hunter - is by Chris Daigle, of Houston, TX - here's his description "pattern forged of 1084 (oil quenched, triple tempered). OAL is 9 1/2" and the blade is 4". The guard is 416SS, the spacer is buffalo horn, and the handle is Osage."

Chuck, of all the knives posted on these forums that ive admired and wished were a part of my collection.......this one ranks in the top 3. Totally amazing. That sheath is just as good looking on the back as on the front....gorgeous knife ! WOW.

This one goes in the file of inspiration.

That has to be the nicest job of inlaid snakeskin I''ve ever seen. The knife is great too, put them together and the word "fantastic" comes to mind.

"We're not worthy! We're not worthy!...."

Talk about a collaboration of real artists! The knife and sheath are a perfect match!!! Individually, they are fine pieces as well!

It would be a real struggle to own this set. They're so very practical and functional, and yet too pretty to get dirty!

Thanks everybody - this one was real challenge to get it right - I haven't done a piece like this in a long time and probably won't do another one for just as long! 8o 8o

RJ - you calling me old! LOL - it's mainly a matter of "wanting" too hard enough and also to be willing to fail - if you don't try you'll never know.

Dave I know you and MtMike and few others like inlays and in a sense this for you guys!

Randy - I just couldn't figure out how to use Brain tan on this one, but that piece of oak tan has got plans......

And again - gracias amigos! I'll go to bed with a big smile on my face tonight!

Yow ! Great in many, many ways. The knife, the sheath, the photography that really shows the fine detail in the finishing and attention to presentation. Your account of the details, stitching etc. also shows that what we see is entirely intended. Nothing accidental here !!!! Jason.

I think if anyone is still asking,Why was "he" asked to do a video, now you know
Chuck, this will finish up that video wonderfully.
It should be ready for the shelves soon too.
Rich is working on the editing even as we speak.

You guys keep your eyes open if you want to do this type work, the "how to" is almost here.Chuck was good to walk us through each step while making these beautiful sheaths.
Tooling, carving, and inlays-all in one video.

Life just gets sweater, doesn't it?
Thanks Chuck,Your efforts will go a long long way and will definately help make this video project a complete success.
Thanks for being a part of history being made. Simply "outstanding"!

Amazing work Chuck, Chris. A show winner for sure

Chuck showed me the beginnngs of this one, but I couldn't visualize the final product as being this detailed. Even the loop inlayed !! Please tell me that's because this is a "show sheath "

So, no more "modern" sheaths, eh friend Well, if this really is the last one, maybe Chris ought to hang on to it (evil laugh)

When will the video be ready Geno? (BTW Geno, ask Chuck why we think your new Forum name should be "Hot Rod")

Mike
