Pattern Pieces

Dear Sirs:

We are working with 3 + ounce steerhide leather for leather jackets.

What material would you recommend to make pattern pieces out of? A knife will be traced around each pattern piece.

Thank you,

Chris

I usually don't make patterns I just keep the basic shapes in my head and draw out a holster for each knife. But when I do make templates I use Masonite
Or thin pieces of wood

I've always been partial to using file folders. as long as the spine is at the crease of the page you can get perfectly symmetrical sides.

File folders are by far the easiest (and cheapest) material to work with.

I suspect that Bigcountry was referring to patterns that he expects to keep and use many times. Obviously, file folder material has a limited life span.
