Stainless steel again
Hello!
A few weeks ago I asked about choosing stainless steel for bolsters, and the answers I got were wery helpful!!! As I understand is 416 stainless the perfect steelfor engravings. I wonder now how it is to engrave in unharded ATS, 440C and 12C27? I don not see this materials often used for engravings. These steel are farly easy for me to buy in sweden. These steel are almost rustfree in unhardened state, and in the harded state there are rustfree. I just wonder how it is to engrave in, in the unharded state, because i want to do the best i can for the engraver. Or should I just stick to the 416?? Best regards A Hedlund http://hem.passagen.se/anderskniv |

I have engraved on these before and they are not at all difficult. They just tend to be a more expensive steel here in the states. So they are not the logical choice for handles and bolsters generally.I don't see why it would be a problem though.....as long as it's left soft of course.

Thank you Andy!!!
This was good to hear! Funny that it is so different in Sweden about steel! I have to order directly from USA to get my hands on 416 stainless. Thanks Again! Best regards Anders Hedlund |
