Russ Andrews hunter/camp knife

These are posted for Danbo. This is his latest from Russ Andrews.

Blade is 5.5" of forged 1086 modified. The guard is stainless steel, and the handle is a nice piece of Cocobolo.

Russ makes a really fine knife.

Terry, thanks for posting the pics. That Cocobolo looks that nice, and I haven't even found my container of Renwax yet!

That looks like a handy little blade. And the cocobolo really does look great. Nice!

Like Terry posted, the blade was forged from some of Howard Clark's 1086 modified. Basically, it's 1084 with a little extra carbon, a little less manganese, and .25% vanadium. From all reports, this is a very good steel! The question now is, do I have the guts to take it out and use it? Hmm, I wonder what effect cutting up a cantalope would have on that 1500 grit finish? Patina, anybody?

handy looking utility knife, dan. you could always do the lime juice trick, then not have to worry so much about patina
thanx for the show.

Thumbs up Excellent ......

Good get Danbo. Gorgeous slick lines there. I can't use cocobolo 'cos of the very bad reaction I get - so I'm jealous. Superb knife. Jason.

Looks like that might be the last Russ Andrews knife with Cocobolo too. Russ said that he is starting to get pretty bad reactions from the cocobolo too, and no longer wants to work with it. Oh well, good thing he has some Ringed Gidgee coming!

Terrific knife Danbo - a very handy design and size. Love that cocobolo handle - that's a real nice piece of wood. Knowing Russ' work as I do, I'm sure everything about the fit and finish is hyper-clean. Congrats!

Cheers,

Roger
