Yet another seax
But this one is patternwelded...
It's bigger than it looks, just over 13 inches in all with a blade just over 7 inches. 1095 edge steel with a 1080/15n20 twist, and masur birch. Thanks for looking. __________________ A good friend told me one time about forging "What is there not to like, you get to break all the rules you were told as a kid, don't play with that it is sharp, don't play with fire, and don't beat on that" Wade Holloway See some of my work. |

Sweet handle
Lovely looking birch handle. Do you have a local supplier or are the handles you use from an internet source? I've looked at a number of the seax you have made and the multitude of handles you use, great work on all of them. -Geoff

Thanks Geoff. I got the wood from Griffin Exotic Wood, it was the only place that had masur birch with photos of the actual piece you are buying... I also use local sources for local types. I am always on the lookout for exceptional wood, and some of the nicest I've used has been from piles of firewood and free for the taking, if you can spot good figure... I try to use woods that are local to (but not necessarily from) northern Europe when making seaxes.
