Exclamation Optimum Angle.

Soon I am going to make a coffee can forge. I have my torch, and EZ start kind, and i was just wondering what angle the flame should enter in the coffee can for the "swirling" effect to take place. I would imagine that it would not be straight up/down or straight into the side.

If anyone has some experience with this please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Jeremiah

I'm not sure how to tell you the correct angle for the burner.....it's not really a matter of degrees, but more so how the flame looks when burning. I would start by cutting the hole for the burner above the centerline of the can (when it's lying horizontal) You'll have to take into account the refractly your putting inside, and then position the burner so the flame brushes the top as it burns. This will force the flame to swirl.

Not sure how pleased you'll be with a "torch", especially if it's one of the little ones that runs off a small propane bottle..... keep the inside dimensions as small as you can....the less area you have to heat, the more heat you'll get.

Right, ok thanks. For the refactory material I was thinking of 1" Kaowool, with a covering of satanite on the top of that. That should be enough refactory material, right?

Thanks.
