question on liner locks
I have a question on liner locks that I hope some one can help me with and that is the pressure of the lock is pushing the blade across when in the closed position.
I am guessing this is a inherent problem with this style of knife but examples I have seen have over come this. Both of my first tries at folders have this issue and I will presume that this is due to my tolerances at the pivot pin area being to large but could I also be missing some key element to help fix this . Any help would be much appreciated. Lee IMG00306-20140103-1804.jpg IMG00346-20140106-2212.jpg |

Yes, a little too much play in the pivot causes this.

Thanks Don for the reply and confirmation of my thoughts , a cheep drill press can only take you so far time to start saving again

While it may be partially due to the tolerances on your drill press, you
might try drilling undersized hole and reaming them to your final dimensions, based on pivot size. __________________ -Andrew Riley For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.... Check out the sticky near the top of the page on the folding knives forum. It shows you how to line up your drill press.

Thanks for the tips ,I have been planning better methods to reduce this play for a bit now ,but keep this on the down low trying to use this angle on the misses to persuade her on the importance for the new drill press Hehe !

Not tried making one in a couple years, and had same problem. Studying others I've noticed, larger pivot pin, tighter tolerences, a larger Teflon bushing on the outside to support behind where the detent ball is pressing against the tang.

Probably the most common reason for this is over bending the spring.
