Cool Sharing a Strange Handle Idea

Just had to try it:

It's a previously fired 20mm cannon shell casing, just the right size for a large handle. The blade is O1 and measures 3.5 x 9" ........

Now you just need to make a matching paring knife with .50 cal casing for the handle!

Did you use anything inside the case to embed the tang in?

Doug,

Yes, the case has a pretty large volume so I put both parts of some epoxy in there, mixed it, and shoved the tang in. The tang is wide enough to fit the opening (20mm, naturally) and has some very large holes drilled in it so the epoxy can get plenty of bite. There is a brass guard that plugs the opening ....

I love it Ray!.......... and remind me never to sneak up on your house! Anyone who has spent 20mm shells laying around is not someone I would want to mess with. I also like the idea of using a .50 cal shell for a matching paring knife.

I like the .50 cal idea too Dave, got any of those shells? I don't have anything chambered for plinking. Maybe I could use one of the .30-30 cases from my derringer ....

It is deer season in FL Ray so I should have a spent .50 cal shell any day now.

Ray.

I might have one laying around. I will look in the AM. I moved a couple of months ago so I hope they did not go the way of the dumpster.
